Wente Family Estates Hires Robbie Meyer as Director of Winemaking for Murrieta's Well

Meyer Will Focus on Producing Luxury Wines From This Historic Estate in the Livermore Valley

LIVERMORE, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 7, 2015) - Wente Family Estates, the oldest continuously-operated family-owned winery in America, is making a significant investment in the future of Murrieta's Well, one of California's original historic estates, with the recent appointment of Robbie Meyer as Director of Winemaking. In this role, Meyer will be directing winemaking, working to ensure that the vineyards are performing well, and the wine quality and style showcase the very best of the estate.

"I'm really excited to be overseeing the winemaking efforts at Murrieta's Well," says Robbie Meyer. "I love the sense of history the winery carries. This property has been around for more than a century and having the opportunity to work on the estate is literally like being a part of California wine history. In addition, having the privilege to work with the Wente family who appreciate this legacy is the icing on the cake."

Meyer's passion is in creating wines that are beautifully elegant and intriguing. He aims to inspire consumers to consider where the grapes are grown and from which varietals the wines are produced. At Murrieta's Well, Meyer will be focusing on small lot harvesting and blending to ensure the very best quality wine is made from the estate.

"Making wine is an artistic experience," says Meyer. "There is nothing quite like growing fruit in the vineyard, caring for it in the winery, and crafting it into something people can enjoy in many ways. At Murrieta's Well, I'm fortunate to be working with the descendants of vines from Chateau d'Yquem and Chateau Margaux -- two of the world's most renowned chateaux. And I'm thrilled that the Wente family is confident that I am the right ambassador to represent this historic brand."

"As Fifth Generation Winegrower for Wente Family Estates, I'm personally very excited to have Robbie bring his skills to Murrieta's Well," says Karl Wente, Senior Vice President of Winemaking. "I have known Robbie for 17 years and have been tasting his wines and following his career with genuine interest. He consistently produces amazing quality wines that truly represent the vineyards and terroir from which they come."

Meyer has worked with vineyards and wineries in Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and Santa Barbara. Prior to joining Murrieta's Well, he has worked at Peter Michael Winery, Lewis Cellars, and Jericho Canyon Vineyards. Additionally, he is a consulting winemaker for several winemaking projects in Napa Valley and Sonoma County.

Murrieta's Well's proprietary blends, The Whip and The Spur, were launched in January 2010. These luxury priced blends are crafted to highlight the best of the estate and harvest each vintage. Both are a tribute to the great white and red blends of the world. Priced at $21 and $25 respectively, these wines are available nationwide or at murrietaswell.com.

About Murrieta's Well:
Murrieta's Well, one of California's original wine estates in the Livermore Valley, is a tribute to the early winemaking pioneers who brought fine wine to this region more than a century ago. The historic estate and the wine blends capture the winemaking spirit of early California. The estate and original gravity-flow winery have been a part of the Wente Family since the early 1930s when French native Louis Mel sold the estate to his friend and neighbor, Ernest Wente. In 1990, Ernest's grandson, Fourth Generation Winegrower Philip Wente, co-founded Murrieta's Well winery with winemaker Sergio Traverso as a way to pay homage to the property's rich history and heritage. Today, the celebrated estate is wholly owned and operated by Wente Family Estates and crafts wine blends that showcase the very best of the estate and harvest each and every vintage.
