Weplay, Social Media Network for Youth Sports, Launches Mobile App Just in Time for Allergy Season

Users to Receive Regular Alerts and Tips From U.S. Olympic Swimmer Summer Sanders, an Allergy Sufferer Since Childhood

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 11, 2012) - Weplay, the fastest-growing social media network for coaches, parents and players of youth sports with over 50,000 participating teams nationwide and 1.5 million families who depend on the network daily, launched an Allergy Alert Mobile App today to educate the community on ways to help young athletes play on during allergy season. U.S. Olympic Swimmer Summer Sanders, a mother of two active kids, joins the team to provide content through regular blog postings about her ongoing struggles with allergies as an athlete.

"With as many as 30 percent of children and 40 percent of adults affected by seasonal allergies today, this campaign felt organic to Weplay's mission -- helping parents prepare for the curveballs of supporting their kids in sports," said Lane Soelberg, CEO of Weplay. "Experts are already predicting a longer and more intense allergy season this year, so we simply want to do what we can to help children enjoy more games."

The Allergy Alert Mobile App synchs with existing Weplay team calendars and provides weather/pollen advisories and seasonal how-to's for parents and their kids. It is now available for iPhone (http://wepl.us/GYRq) and Android (http://wepl.us/dhwi) users.

Sanders will share advice to help young athletes manage their allergies and enjoy their sports, as well as stories about her lifelong allergies, her children's activities and coverage/analysis of this year's Summer Olympics. She overcame her own allergies to medal four times in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, including two Gold medals, and is a member of the U.S. Swimming Hall of Fame.

"As someone who didn't let my allergies get in the way of playing sports, I'm thrilled to join Weplay in helping make life easier for parents and their young athletes," said Sanders. "It's great to see a social network like Weplay addressing issues that active families face daily."

In addition to Sanders, Santa Monica, Calif.-based Weplay is backed by CAA, Major League Baseball, Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning.
