West-End Dance School Celebrates 25 Years of Nutcracker Ballet

Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement Invites Toronto to Join in Holiday Tradition: Tickets on Sale Now

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 16, 2010) - Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement, a Parkdale-based not-for-profit organization, along with presenting sponsor Scotiabank, invite Toronto to be a part of the school's 25th annual performance of Nutcracker.

Tickets are on sale now for Bouman's full-length production, which is currently the longest running performance of this classic holiday ballet danced by young people aged 7 to 17 in Toronto. Performances run from Thursday, December 16 through Sunday, December 19.

"We're so excited to celebrate 25 years of our Nutcracker production with Toronto and to be a part of the city's holiday cheer," says Pia Bouman, artistic director and founder of Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement. "Each year carries its own memories for the school, as well as our audiences. It's wonderful to look back at the students and the community and see how far we have come; I look forward to sharing this enchanting tradition with future generations."

"It's a milestone year for the School's Nutcracker production and I encourage families from across the GTA to come and enjoy this holiday classic," said John Doig, Scotiabank Senior Vice President, Toronto Region. "Scotiabank is proud to support this long-standing tradition. These types of programs are important – they instill confidence in our children, teach appreciation for the arts and bring communities together."

Bouman's production of Nutcracker has been a holiday tradition for GTA families for 24 years. With more than 90 young dancers taking the stage with siblings, parents and grandparents, this production is a seasonal highlight for many.

Bouman's Nutcracker is newly choreographed each year to the current cast and uses more than 1,000 props and costumes.

Proceeds from the production help to sustain the school's high caliber programs and Bursary Fund. This bursary helps young dancers pursue their dreams of learning dance, performance and creation.
