West Penn Testing's Pompe to Deliver Technical Paper on Alternative to Multi-Zone Ultrasonic Testing

NEW KENSINGTON, PA--(Marketwire - March 22, 2011) - West Penn Testing Group (, a provider of material testing services, announced that Mark Pompe, Level III, will present information on Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) with a co-presenter from one of the company's jet-engine-manufacturing customers. The event will take place at 2:45pm today at the 20th Annual Research Symposium of the American Society of Nondestructive Testing in San Francisco. The presentation, entitled "Implementation on the Factory Floor," will discuss how PAUT technology can be used as an alternative to multi-zone ultrasonic testing and meet FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) requirements.

Commenting on the presentation, Pompe said, "We will review how the new testing technology will address the need of aerospace customers to have an alternative test that satisfies the requirements of industry regulators."

Pompe reports PAUT capabilities are well known in industry, but not yet extensively used in the aerospace sector. "Jet-engine manufacturers are eager to develop a quality testing process that accommodates FAA specifications," said Pompe. "PAUT holds out the promise of doing this, while also delivering improvements in the areas of setup time and overall costs."

According to Pompe, PAUT technology is entirely capable of meeting requirements set forth in FAA test mandates. "A number of jet-engine manufacturers have expressed confidence that PAUT has compared favorably with results generated by multi-zone ultrasonic testing. PAUT has demonstrated the capability to establish a viable testing alternative," he said.

An abstract of Pompe's presentation is now available on the West Penn Testing website:
