Westcon Brazil Achieves Spectacular Growth Rate in 2008, Eclipsing Other Regional Technology Companies

Brazil Plays a Fundamental Role in Westcon Group's Overall Growth Plan, According to Westcon Group CEO Dean Douglas

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - October 6, 2009) - Westcon Brazil, a subsidiary of Westcon Group, Inc., the leading specialty distributor in networking, convergence, security and mobility, posted outstanding growth in 2008. This growth -- fueled by a strong manufacturer portfolio and unique sales channel offerings -- led to a three-fold increase in the subsidiary's size, eclipsing the growth rate of other Brazilian-based technology companies.

The dramatic growth of Westcon Brazil has been duly acknowledged by the market and the media. According to two prominent publications serving the IT and telecom fields, Info2000 and Anuario Informatica Hoje, Westcon is now the fastest growing technology company in Brazil. On Info2000's most recent ranking of companies, Westcon increased its ranking to 66 from 131; on Anuario Informatica Hoje's list, the company's ranking increased to 46 from 74.

In addition to being recognized by the broader market and business media, Westcon Brazil also achieved impressive accolades and awards from many of its manufacturer partners. In 2008, Cisco awarded Westcon Brazil "New Distributor of the Year" (a global award) as well as "Distributor of the Year" for Brazil. Westcon Brazil also received Websense's All-Star award for having achieved impressive sales performance in Latin America for 2008.

Dean Douglas, president and CEO of Westcon Group, commented: "Brazil is strategic for Westcon Group not only for its market potential, but also as a platform for further development in Latin America. We are pleased to be recognized by the Brazilian market for our recent performance, which we achieved by remaining focused on making our customers more competitive."

"Westcon will continue to invest in Brazil, particularly in operations and logistics infrastructure, marketing and personnel training," Douglas added. "We will also continue to provide liquidity to the Brazilian reseller market, which we consider to be very important for regional growth."

Otavio Lazarini Barbosa, General Manager, Westcon Brazil and Latin America, said, "Last year, we added some very significant brands to our distribution portfolio, including Cisco and Google; additionally, we consolidated two of our very important market segments: security and convergence. We are constantly striving to improve our business, looking towards other growth opportunities that exist in areas like mobility, the data center and unified communications. We want our customers to be ahead of their competition, plain and simple."

"Westcon Brazil's market recognition is well deserved," commented Carlos Gurgel, head of São Paulo based sales channel DMI. "Much of the growth we have experienced over the last decade is in part due to Westcon's own commitment to our business -- whether this was expressed through its dedicated solutions programs, training, financing or breadth of technology offerings."

"Westcon Group is much more than a distributor for us -- they are a very strong ally in our Brazilian go-to-market strategy," commented Eduardo Almeida, Director of Sales Channels for Cisco Brazil. "We commend them on their recent performance and look forward to developing an even more strategic and meaningful relationship moving forward."
