Western Areas Announces Successful Share Registrar Changeover

PERTH, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - June 6, 2008) -

THIS NEWS RELEASE IS NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO U.S. NEWSWIRE SERVICES OR FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE U.S.

The Board of Western Areas (TSX:WSA)(ASX:WSA) is pleased to announce the successful changeover of Share Registrar to Computershare Investor Services ("Computershare") for both the Australian share registrar and Canadian transfer agent services.

Discussion

The consolidation of the Company's share registry services to a single provider was completed on 2 June 2008. The Company has engaged Computershare's services to help facilitate the rapid transfer of shares between the Australian Stock Exchange ("ASX") and the Toronto Stock Exchange ("TSX"), with transfers between the registers estimated to be achieved within hours (mainly due to time zones) rather than days.

Market participants may now utilise Computershare's xSettle service to deliver rapid cross-border settlement, including concurrent settlement. Further details can be found on the Computershare website.

Shareholders can now access all normal share registry services via the Computershare communication centre via the following:
