Western Exploration and Development Ltd.: 2008 Drill Results

RENO, NEVADA--(Marketwire - Feb. 27, 2009) - Western Exploration and Development Ltd. ("WXL"), has completed its preliminary compilation and review of its 2008 exploration and development drilling program. Below please find a synopsis of these efforts.

2008 Program

The company drilled 48 reverse circulation (RC) exploration holes totaling 43,325 feet at four project areas during the 2008 field season. Exploration drilling at all four project areas encountered ore grade mineralization. The four projects drilled were: Doby George and Badger Ridge/Wood Gulch in Elko County and Section 6 and Section 30 at the Marigold District in Humboldt County.

- Doby George Project. Nineteen reverse circulation holes were drilled at the Doby George Project with every hole encountering ore grade mineralization (equal or greater than 0.020 opt Au over a 30 foot interval). The tabulation of the mineralized intercepts is contained in Exhibit A. Significant results include five foot intercepts assaying 0.40 opt and mineralized intercepts 250 feet in thickness. The geologic interpretation of this drilling has been integrated into the Doby George Project database. WXL anticipates having a 43-101 compliant resource estimate for the Doby George Project completed during April 2009.

- Badger Ridge/Wood Gulch Projects. Eleven RC holes were drilled on three separate, previously undrilled targets in the area of the Badger Ridge/Wood Gulch mineralization complex. Drilling encountered highly anomalous gold at two of these targets: Badger Creek NW, and Badger Ridge.

The drilling at the Trail Creek Diatreme did not encounter any anomalous gold or silver mineralization. No further work at this area is planned.

One of the three holes drilled at Badger Creek NW intercepted anomalous gold values, but the hole was terminated short of the intended target due to adverse drilling conditions.

WXL has made a new gold and silver discovery at Badger Ridge. Three of the four holes drilled at this volcanic hosted target intercepted highly anomalous gold and silver mineralization with grades up to 0.06 opt Au and 5.1 opt Ag, with continuous mineralization extending to 200 feet (not true thickness) in one of the holes. The tabulation of the gold and silver intercepts is contained in Exhibit B. The strike length of this fault controlled gold and silver zone appears to extend over two miles in length.

- Section 6 Project. Eleven RC holes were drilled at the Section 6 Project with eight of these holes encountering ore grade values equal to or greater than 0.006 ounces per ton (opt) Au over 20 feet (Goldcorp's cutoff grade: 2007 Annual Report). Gold values over 5 feet sample intervals were as high as 0.10 opt Au. Gold mineralization intercepts were continuous for as much as 275 feet. Exhibit C, Section 6 contains the results of this drilling. These results extend the known gold mineralization from the area of Goldcorp and Barrick's Antler Deposit to the south onto Western's private property.

- Section 30 Project. Seven RC holes were drilled along the eastern edge of the Section 30 Project area. Six of these holes encountered ore grade mineralization (equal to or greater than 0.006 opt Au) with grades up to 0.045 opt Au over 5 foot sample intervals. Continuous mineralized intercepts up to 120 feet thick were encountered. Exhibit C, Section 30 contains the results of this drilling. These results confirm the anticipated extension of Goldcorp and Barrick's Section 30 gold deposit westward onto Western's private property.

The 2008 exploration program developed a significant leap forward in the understanding of these project areas.

- The Doby George gold mineralization is primarily fault controlled with minor lithologic exceptions. The mineralization is open along strike (north/south & northwest/southeast) and at depth. Gold values tend to improve with depth. Future drill programs will continue to go deeper and follow strike extensions.

- The Badger Ridge/Wood Gulch gold/silver mineralization is now demonstrated to be present in the Tertiary volcanic deposits as well as the Paleozoic sediments. This knowledge opens several miles of strike length as a potential extension to the mineralizing system. There appears to be two mineralizing events; the first event occurred prior to the deposition of the tertiary volcanic units and the second event after this deposition.

- The two parcels in the Marigold District, Section 6 and Section 30, both contain gold mineralization. Based upon the drill results and geologic projections from existing mines adjacent to these properties, the gold mineralization may underlie as much as 120 acres of the 240 acres of privately owned land. Future drilling will both focus on quantifying the extent of the mineralization and assessing the structures that fed this gold system.

ABOUT WESTERN EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT LTD.

Western Exploration and Development Ltd. ("WXL"), is a privately held gold exploration and development company operating in Nevada. The Company has an experienced management and exploration group with a strong background in all aspects of exploration and development of gold deposits. WEI controls rights to over 74,000 acres of private property as well as 636 unpatented lode claims, subject to varied royalties.

WXL currently has five exploration projects with gold intercepts in drilling, as well as numerous gold exploration targets. WXL is in the process of obtaining outside funding to further advance both the projects and targets.
