Western Forest Products Comments on Maa-nulth First Nations, Federal and Provincial Governments Agreement

DUNCAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 9, 2006) - Western Forest Products Inc. (TSX:WEF) expressed its support for the Final Agreement signed today in the process towards a treaty between the Maa-nulth First Nations and the Governments of Canada and British Columbia.

"It's an historic occasion," says Reynold Hert, Western's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The agreement should bring benefits to the people of the Maa-nulth First Nations, and it should also clarify where aboriginal title exists on the land and defines aboriginal rights. These are key considerations in creating certainty to allow our business to operate and grow in the areas covered by the agreement." Portions of Western's Tree Farm Licence 44 and Forest Licence A19231 lie within the traditional territories of the Maa-nulth First Nations.

The Final Agreement is subject to ratification by the Maa-nulth First Nations, and by the legislatures of Canada and British Columbia.
