Western Keltic Mines Inc.: Kutcho Creek Advances to Feasibility Stage-Mine Builder John McConnell Appointed President and CEO

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - April 4, 2006) - Western Keltic Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE:WKM) is pleased to announce the appointment of John McConnell as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Company. Mr. McConnell is an experienced mine builder who has been given a mandate by the Board of Directors to complete mine permitting and a bankable feasibility study for the Kutcho Creek copper-zinc massive sulphide project.

Mr. McConnell brings 32 years of experience in Canadian mine development and operations to Western Keltic. Most recently, he directed development and construction of the Snap Lake Diamond Project for De Beers Canada Inc. His responsibilities as Vice President - NWT Projects for De Beers included environmental assessment, completion of a bankable feasibility study and commencement of construction of the Snap Lake Diamond Mine. Prior to DeBeers, he was Project Manager at Snap Lake for Winspear Diamonds Inc. where he supervised a major underground development program and completion of a pre-feasibility study for a 3000 tpd underground mine.

Prior to his work at Snap Lake, Mr. McConnell was employed by both Breakwater Resources Ltd. and Strathcona Mineral Services at the Nanisivik zinc-lead mine and Caribou Mine, culminating in his appointment as Vice President Canadian Operations for Breakwater. Mr. McConnell is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, with a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering.

The company has also granted 1,095,000 common share purchase options with a five year term to directors and employees with an exercise price of $0.50 per share.

Western Keltic is a mineral exploration and development company whose principal asset is the Kutcho Creek copper-zinc massive sulphide project, near Dease Lake northwestern British Columbia. Mine permitting is currently underway through the BC Environmental Assessment Office as are feasibility stage studies on pit design, metallurgy, plant and process.
