Western Keltic Mines Inc.: Positive Pre-Feasibility Study Results Advance the Kutcho Project to the Next Stage

Western Keltic signs contract with Wardrop Engineering for a Feasibility Study

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2007) - Western Keltic Mines Inc. ("The Company") (TSX VENTURE:WKM) announced today the signing of a contract with Wardrop Engineering Inc. to conduct a feasibility study on the Kutcho Project ("Kutcho" or the "Project"). A pre-feasibility study was recently completed for Kutcho and confirmed robust economic results. As such, The Company has decided to accelerate the completion of a feasibility study. Subject to positive feasibility study results and adequate financing, it is anticipated that mine construction will commence in the summer of 2008 with commercial production occurring in 2010.

"We are very pleased with the results of the Pre-Feasibility Study and we look forward to working with the engineering team at Wardrop to move Kutcho to the next milestone," said John McConnell, President & CEO of Western Keltic. He added, "The Project is on budget and on schedule."

Kutcho is 100% owned by Western Keltic Mines and is located in northwestern B.C., 100KM east of Dease Lake. Over the last two years The Company has completed in depth mining and environmental studies to prepare the Project for permitting, construction and operations. Today, Kutcho is positioned as Canada's next major copper producing mine.

The Company's management team expects that the feasibility study will result in additional cost savings of The Project. In particular, the study will examine opportunities related to equipment procurement, mining technologies and power.

A NI 43-101 Technical Report pertaining to the Pre-feasibility study is now available on SEDAR at www.sedar.com.
