Westminster Savings Foundation Grants $15,000 To Support St. John Ambulance

NEW WESTMINSTER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - April 26, 2006) - The Westminster Savings Foundation recently granted $15,000 to St. John Ambulance to aid in purchasing a First-Aid Gator vehicle to expand their emergency support services to off-road trails and transport patients to a first aid post or to an awaiting ambulance.

"Westminster Savings Credit Union played a very important role in the establishment of our organization in the Tri-Cities area when they made a donation of $20,000 to assist in our renovations of our leased building. Since then we have grown to some 55 members who cover first aid needs at over 120 community events every year. Westminster Savings Credit Union is now helping us again to ensure we have the right equipment and supplies to perform first aid with a 4 x 6 wheeled off-road gas vehicle called the Gator. This vehicle will be used in many of our events where being on foot or using our ambulance is not practical such as parks, trails, fields and many other areas," says Richard Nelson, the Chair of St. John Ambulance at the Tri-Cities Branch. "We are grateful to the Credit Union for their continued support and the commitment."

St. John Ambulance has existed for over 900 years beginning as Hospitaliers to pilgrims going to Holy Land during the Crusades. In Canada it was founded in 1882 and their mission is to improve health, safety and quality of life of Canadians by providing training and community service. The Tri-Cities Volunteer Brigade Division 54 has been serving Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam since 1980 from New Westminster and since 2000 from the new Tri-Cities Branch office in Port Moody. In 2005, Division 54 was awarded the "Best Adult Division in BC" for its overall response to first aid request needs in the community and having a high level of training and good retention of its members.

"We are proud to have the opportunity to give back to our local communities and pleased to continue our support for the Tri-Cities St. John Ambulance division," says Barry Forbes, President and CEO of Westminster Savings Credit Union.

The Westminster Savings Foundation was established in 1994 as a means of sharing the Credit Union's financial success with local charitable and non- profit groups. Since its inception, the Foundation has put over $1 Million dollars back into the community, focusing its funding towards groups operating within the Education, Health, Social Services, Youth, and/or Cultural sectors.

As one of Canada's largest credit unions, Westminster Savings is dedicated to providing full financial services to the residents of the Lower Mainland. Westminster Savings has over $1.3 billion in assets, 51,000 members and nine retail branches in New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, White Rock, and Langley with another location opening in 2006. In addition Westminster Savings has a full service Commercial Services branch and operates two subsidiaries, WS Leasing Ltd, and Westminster Savings Financial Planning Ltd.
