Westminster Savings Foundation Provides $40,500 Donation to Seniors Services Society For New Passenger Van

NEW WESTMINSTER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 2, 2007) - Participants in programs run by the Seniors Services Society of New Westminster will enjoy a new and comfortable ride thanks to a recent gift by the Westminster Savings Foundation. A donation of $40,500.00 was made by the Foundation to assist with the project, which will allow the Society to replace their old bus and to expand programs which deliver meals to isolated clients and provide necessary social outings.

"We are so pleased to receive this support from Westminster Savings Credit Union," says Val MacDonald, Executive Director, Seniors Services Society. "This partnership will allow us to continue our mission to encourage, inform, and support the independence and wellness of the older adults in our community."

Seniors Services Society of New Westminster was formed from a merger in 2006 of the Western Society for Seniors Citizens Services and the Seniors Housing Information Program. Together, the two organizations have provided over 50 years of service to assist with seniors' needs, and have a vision in which all older adults are well supported, adequately housed and contributing and valued in a healthy community. Programs offered by the Society include Meals on Wheels, a Dining and Lunch club, assisted grocery shopping, friendly support calls, and free tax clinics. As well, a housing counsellor and outreach workers are available to provide support and information.

"Our communities' well-being and success are important to the credit union," says Barry Forbes, President and CEO, Westminster Savings Credit Union. "We are committed to this through various local sponsorships and donations, Westminster Savings Foundation gifts, as well as the countless hours that our employees spend volunteering - both personally and through the credit union's staff-run Community Involvement Teams. Our Foundation grants, such as this one to the Seniors Services Society, honour our heritage of community partnerships."
