Westminster Savings Foundation Provides Grant of $21,000 to Assist Students With Learning Disabilities

NEW WESTMINSTER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 2, 2007) - Students at James Cameron School will benefit from expanded programs thanks to a recent gift by the Westminster Savings Foundation. A donation of $21,000.00 was made by the Foundation to help facilitate an additional 15 students, expand their Orton-Gillingham training (a specialized tutoring program), and increase student physical education and field trip opportunities.

"We are so pleased to receive this support from Westminster Savings Credit Union," says Mark Evans, Board Chairman, Fraser Valley Society for Children with Learning Disorders. "All children deserve to have the opportunity to learn. This partnership will allow us to help students to be successful in their studies, and also have the life skills and confidence to succeed in the community throughout their lives."

James Cameron School is the only school for children with learning disabilities serving Maple Ridge, Langley, Surrey, and the Tricities. The school was founded in 1980, is operated by the Fraser Valley Society for Children with Learning Disabilities, and is accredited by the Independent Schools Branch of the B.C. Ministry of Education. All students attending the school have been diagnosed as having specific learning disabilities, primarily, but not always, dyslexia. James Cameron School encourages the academic and social development of each student, and maintains the philosophy that it is never too late to intervene, and it is always too soon to give up.

"Our credit union holds a deep commitment to helping build and strengthen the communities we share with our members," says Barry Forbes, President and CEO, Westminster Savings Credit Union. "Our corporate citizenship initiatives include various local sponsorships and donations, Westminster Savings Foundation gifts, as well as the credit union's staff-run Community Involvement Teams. Our Foundation grants, such as this one to James Cameron School, honour our heritage of community partnerships."
