Westran Music: Too Patriotic for Canada?

Does Canadian Media Discourage Patriotism in Canada?

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 29, 2010) - Westran's first single and title track from their sophomore album, Canadian Made, has been deemed 'Too patriotic for the radio'. Westran emailed the track to various Rock and HotAC stations across Canada to get feedback on the song but was surprised by the anti-Canadian responses. Brant Westran, who wrote and produced the track, was taken back, mainly because "everyone who hears it loves it."

Westran doesn't understand what the big deal is, "I just wanted to give Canadians a song to be proud of, a 'Born in the USA' style rock anthem, only for Canada." He wonders if he's bringing to light a cultural issue that has been swept under the rug until now.

Westran has started a Facebook group to garner support for the song, inviting people to listen to the track and weigh in with their opinions not only on the song but also the anti-Canadian comments made about it. Westran will still officially release Canadian Made to national radio despite the accusations that Canadian radio and the media will not support it. To this claim Westran simply answers, "It's what we do as independent Canadian musicians, we prove people wrong."
