Weyerhaeuser Mill to Trim Electric Costs More Than 10% Using Organic Rankin Cycle Technology, an Industrial Info News Alert

SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwire - Jul 20, 2011) - Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Jason Gold wants to help industrial companies like chemical makers, pulp and paper mills, cement makers and natural gas processors cut their electric costs by generating electricity from wasted process heat.

"Waste heat recovery is the hidden gem of renewable energy, it's ubiquitous, and it's right under our collective noses," Gold told Industrial Info. "The solution to industrial companies' electricity needs is right on their property."

But this is not your typical industrial cogeneration or renewable energy story. Gold is founder, chairman and chief executive of KGRA Energy Corporation (Lake Forest, Illinois), a two-year-old company that uses organic Rankin cycle (ORC) technology to generate electricity from process heat. The organic material used in KGRA's Rankin cycle equipment boils at a lower temperature than water, which means that more electricity can be generated from lower-temperature industrial waste heat, compared to Rankin cycle technology using water.

Gold told Industrial Info that KGRA is currently installing the world's first ORC project in the Pulp, Paper & Wood Industry, at a large North Carolina lumber mill operated by Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE:WY) (Federal Way, Washington).
