Whale Cove Celebrates New Community Hall

WHALE COVE, NUNAVUT--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2008) - Today, the town of Whale Cove, Nunavut officially opened the new John Adjuk Community Hall - a joint Canada/Nunavut investment under the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.

"Our Government is proud to work with our territorial partners in support of projects such as these," said the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Nunavut, on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Metis and Non-Status Indians. "This new community hall reflects our commitment to ensure Nunavummiut have solid infrastructure that will help their communities thrive."

"Congratulations to the residents of Whale Cove on your new community hall and this great addition to your community," said Minister Lorne Kusugak, Minister of Community and Government Services, Government of Nunavut. "This new facility is a solid step in meeting Whale Cove's infrastructure needs and will surely benefit everyone."

"The new hall has given Whale Cove a larger and more efficient space to gather as a community," said Mayor Percy Kabloona. "I look forward to seeing you all here for feasts, recreational events and other community gatherings over the coming years."

The new Whale Cove community hall was named after John Adjuk, a respected elder who was an active community member. Mr. Adjuk was originally from Gary Lake but spent most of his life in Whale Cove.
