What Happens When a Mission to Improve Literacy Rates Meets Canada's Most Prestigious Literary Award? A Literary Party for the Books

14th Annual Scotiabank Giller Light Bash in Support of Frontier College Takes Place Across Canada on November 10

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - November 05, 2015) - On November 10, over 1500 Canadian book lovers will gather to celebrate the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize finalists at Scotiabank Giller Light Bash events across the country. The Scotiabank Giller Light Bash -- Canada's most popular alternative Giller party is held in support of Frontier College, a national non-profit literacy organization.

Originally organized as a house party by a group of friends, the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash has grown to a full-scale event held concurrently in seven Canadian cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto and Halifax. Now in its 14th year, the fundraiser continues to raise awareness for literacy via an entertaining evening featuring a live broadcast of the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Combining the taste of the Scotiabank Giller Prize formalities with an affordable price and an exciting party environment, guests await the announcement of the literary award by enjoying fun speculation on which book will take home the coveted prize, and hear local luminaries advocate for their chosen nominated book. All proceeds from the events support Frontier College and provide essential literacy programs for children, youth and adults across the country.

"Events including the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash help raise awareness and provide funding for an issue that touches millions of Canadians," says Sherry Campbell, President and CEO, Frontier College. "It is easy to take for granted the concepts of reading and literacy. But for those most vulnerable, who have difficulty reading and writing, opportunities in life are severely limited. Frontier College is helping children, youth and adults to improve their literacy skills and increase their opportunities."

"We are pleased to support Frontier College to bring the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash back to book lovers across Canada," says Jacquie Ryan, Vice President of Sponsorships at Scotiabank. "These events help to make a difference for a great cause while we celebrate works of literature that inspire us all. We are proud to support Frontier College's important work to bring literacy and learning to Canadians, and we invite everyone to join our celebrations in the city nearest to them."
