What Makes You Smile?

:DentalPlans Announces New Survey Results

PLANTATION, FL--(Marketwired - October 01, 2015) - A new :DP SmileMeter™ survey* by :DentalPlans reveals what makes people smile. :DentalPlans, a leader in dental savings plans, is on a mission to make sure everyone has access to affordable dental care so that they can show the world their smile with confidence. In celebration of World Smile Day, they asked people all about smiles. When asked about the grins of late night talk show hosts, Jimmy Fallon came out on top with over one-third (36 percent) of respondents naming him as "best smile." David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel came in second with a tie of 13 percent each.

So what does it take to achieve celebrity-smile status and does the average Joe think he has it? That depends. Women are 15 percent more likely than men to rate their smile as superb. And 59% of African Americans surveyed were significantly more confident about their smiles than all other ethnicities.

"Your smile is a way to present yourself to the world," says Bill Chase, vice president of marketing for :DentalPlans. "We want everyone to feel 100 percent confident about their smile and their oral health so they can reach out without holding back; that's why we are working hard to help make dental care affordable and accessible for everyone."

In addition, the :DP SmileMeter found the following:

Top Three: Baby smiles (24 percent), followed by hysterically laughing smiles (22 percent), and first love smiles (17 percent) are the top three favorite types of smiles.

Acts of Kindness: A random smile to a stranger (21 percent) and words of affection and humor (18 percent) are the "go-to" methods for making someone smile.

Smile Busters: Not everything makes us smile. Rude people take the smiles off 64 percent of faces, followed by the upcoming presidential election, which makes 23 percent of us frown.

Scary Smirks:The Joker comes in with the creepiest smile at 29 percent, followed by Gary Busey and Jack Nicholson at 18 percent each.
