What's Hiding in Your Closet? SolarWinds Introduces New, Low-Cost Switch Port Mapper Tool to Help Take Inventory of Device and User Connections

SolarWinds Invites IT Pros to Submit the Best Clean, Catastrophic and Creative Cabling Jobs

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - February 16, 2011) - Network administrators and IT infrastructure engineers spend a significant amount of time mapping out the connections to switches, tracing cables, identifying duplex mismatches, and investigating spanning tree issues. To help make tracking down users and switch ports quick, easy and reliable, SolarWinds® Inc. (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, today announced the release of a new low-cost tool -- Switch Port Mapper.

To support the release of Switch Port Mapper, SolarWinds is inviting IT Pros to share photos and videos of their wiring closet mayhem and mastery through March 9 for a chance to win some of the company's coveted geek gear.

Contest participants must first create a video or take a photo of their cabling masterpiece and then post it for the geek universe to admire on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, their blog or website, or SolarWinds' online community, thwack. Finally, participants submit their photo or video link using SolarWinds' official contest form, or simply attach their photo or video directly to the form.

SolarWinds will post the submissions on its Facebook page, and announce the winner of the best Clean, Catastrophic and Creative cabling jobs on March 16 when SolarWinds' Head Geek, Josh Stephens, reviews all the entries. The contest is open only to legal residents of the United States. For more details regarding the contest instructions, and terms and conditions, please visit SolarWinds' Facebook page.

One of the most popular tools in the SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset, Switch Port Mapper is now available as a standalone tool for just $195. "Every network engineer or system administrator needs a number of affordable, go-to tools in their daily arsenal to help troubleshoot and repair network problems," said Josh Stephens, SolarWinds' Head Geek and VP of Technology. "Switch Port Mapper dramatically simplifies what's historically been a manual and time-consuming procedure, saving network engineers countless hours in the wiring closet or at CLI, and ultimately reducing the mean time to resolution for common troubleshooting tasks."
