When It Comes to Photography, Practice Makes Perfect

Eyefi Research Reveals Photographers Continue to Reach for Their Digital Camera and Actively Seek to Improve Their Skills

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 29, 2014) - Eyefi (, the global leader in digital camera connectivity, today announced the results of a survey of photo enthusiasts on photography interests and trends. The poll, conducted by Eyefi and called "The Voice of the Photographer," included responses from more than 11,000 Eyefi customers to reveal a greater understanding of photographers' needs and desires, and to unravel where, why and how customers view trends. The data confirmed that photographers reach for their digital camera for taking high quality photos and practice avidly with over 52% taking photographs several times a week. Additionally, they are constantly striving to improve their skills through researching and sharing.

"It is crucial to Eyefi to get an accurate view of photo enthusiasts' opinions and interests in the world of photography," said Matt DiMaria, CEO of Eyefi. "Our recent survey demonstrates that photographers are avid enthusiasts who consistently practice, research and seek feedback from experts and peers alike."

An overwhelming 87% of respondents said they're actively seeking ways to improve their photography skills in the ever-evolving digital age. In addition to regular practicing, results show that photo enthusiasts seek to improve their skills in a variety of ways.

  • 77% said Amazon, CNET and WIRED are major sources of learning about photography.
  • 68% are reading online photography blogs for tips.
  • Survey respondents identified Joe McNally, Ken Rockwell and Scott Kelby as most influential photography bloggers.
  • Photographers continue to spend money on their hobby with a majority of respondents spending up to $500 per year on photography-related purposes.

Not surprising, the poll also confirmed photographers desire to solicit feedback and share their work as a way to improve their skills.

  • 72.5% of survey respondents use social media to share photographs, with over 50 percent using Facebook.
  • Emails to friends and family were the number one way respondents share their photographs.
