When the Snow Melts, Big Adventure Heats Up in Vail

Llama Hikes, Dining at Altitude and Zipping Down a Mountain Among Summer Offerings

VAIL, CO--(Marketwired - May 21, 2015) - Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer. Many families will heat up the grill, head to the beach or take in a big blockbuster movie. Why not visit your favorite winter destination during summer months when the snow melts and the fun heats up?

Reach new heights this summer in Vail by dining at 10,325 feet, hiking a 14er alongside llamas or attending a music festival in a spectacular outdoor setting. Coveted as a popular winter destination, as the snow melts Vail transforms into an iconic summer playground complete with outdoor pursuits, endless events and world-class shopping and dining. In the summer, lodging rates begin at $135 per night providing a great value to visitors and making it easier for guests to stay and play in the mountains.

Hiking is the most popular activity that guests enjoy in the summer while visiting Vail. With more than 155 miles of trails, Vail offers a plethora of experiences to choose from on Vail Mountain and throughout the surrounding Gore and Sawatch mountain Ranges. Guided nature hikes and alpine walks are among favorites for beginners, while expert outings and overnight trips can be arranged with a guide for those wanting advanced routes or to summit larger peaks near Vail.

Two gondolas provide another way to access the mountain for hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing and new, aerial activities at Adventure Ridge. Adventure Ridge offers a variety of new activities including a four-line 1,200-foot long zip-line and two aerial challenge courses.

For a more challenging Adventure Ridge experience, guests can conquer one of two ropes courses each featuring three levels of elements to maneuver including ladders, rope bridges, swinging logs, cargo nets and more, all within the safety of a harness.

After a day of play on the mountain or in the village, fuel up at one of Vail's 75 bars and restaurants. On-mountain offerings such as The 10th for lunch on weekends and Game Creek Restaurant for brunch and dinner provide unique, memorable settings for dining at altitude.
