WhileOnTheMove to Showcase Near Field Communications Applications at "Tomorrow's Wireless World"

NFC's Expanding Role in Service Discovery, Schools, Traveling, Mobile and Other Emerging Applications to Be Demonstrated November 18 at the Hilton San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - November 17, 2008) - WhileOnTheMove, a privately held MSG Software Ltd technology company based in Oulu, Finland, today announced its Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile business solutions will be showcased at "Tomorrow's Wireless World," November 18, at the Hilton San Jose, featuring a keynote from Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel Corp.

"NFC technology's most compelling advantage is that by touching a smart tag with their mobile phones, consumers can get information, buy a ticket, pay a small fee, or send a text message, to name just a few possibilities," said Kari Kivisto, director and CTO of WhileOnTheMove. "With this type of 'service discovery' application, the consumer doesn't need to know the Web address, SMS number, or even the application in order to complete a transaction on the Internet. The possibilities are endless. According to leading market analyst firm Frost & Sullivan, one third of all mobile phones will be NFC-equipped in a span of three to five years."

Ideal for tourists and students, 'Amazing NFC' is one of the WhileOnTheMove NFC services to be showcased at the event. With 'Amazing NFC' users can learn useful information about a city, its offices, institutions, culture and history by using their mobile phone to touch a smart tag embedded into landmarks and signage that may initiate a video clip, image or textual information about the object. With an option for prompting users to answer questions or complete tasks before moving on to the next smart tag, 'Amazing NFC' can be used as a fun interactive learning tool at schools. There are several other user scenarios where NFC is currently used in schools in the city of Oulu.

"NFC technology brings the Internet into the reach of people while they are on the move, and enables users to access digital content intuitively," said Kivisto. "The use of the Internet by mobile phone will rapidly emerge and consumers will begin to use NFC applications for transactions such as ticketing and payment."

The City of Oulu, Finland, one of the world's most significant centers in wireless technology, has been one of the first cities in the world to explore and pilot NFC technology in public services.

"Oulu's vision is to have the most advanced public services in the world by 2015," said Outi Rouru-Kuivala, project manager, Central Administration, City of Oulu. "NFC is tomorrow's technology that we are using today. It is proven to be reliable and it works. The next step is to widely leverage it."
