The White House and Center for Digital Government Honor Creators of Open-Data Web Tools

SACRAMENTO, CA --(Marketwire - Jul 28, 2011) - The White House, in coordination with e.Republic's Center for Digital Government, honored sixteen individuals as "Champions of Change" for developing innovative Web applications using public data discovered on federal, state and local websites. The Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government, worked in conjunction with the White House in selecting the champions.

e.Republic's Government Technology magazine, which focuses on solving problems in state and local government through the smart use of technology, interviewed the champions and is showcasing their stories with exclusive photos in the August issue and with a slideshow and video interviews on www.govtech.com/e-government/White-House-Open-Data-Developers-Trade-Ideas.html

The winning open-data applications vary widely in scope, from navigating complicated zoning ordinances to informing parents of child-friendly destinations to helping asthma patients track the use of their medication.
