White Ops Appoints Former AppNexus Expert as Vice President of Product Management

Ashton Erler Brings Ad Industry and Security Expertise to Eradicate Botnet Fraud Across the Online Ecosystem

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Dec 10, 2013) -  White Ops, a pioneer in online fraud detection, today announced the appointment of Ashton Erler as vice president of product management. Erler is responsible for defining White Ops product strategy and vision for the company's Digital Advertising Security and Enterprise Security Solutions and growing the product development team.

"Advertising fraud has become -- by an order of magnitude -- the largest and most profitable market for botnet-driven crime," said Michael Tiffany, Co-Founder and CEO at White Ops. "For us, that makes it the most logical beachhead, providing us the greatest intelligence into botnet dynamics and a rich-proving ground for our solutions. Ashton's experience in fighting ad network fraud is invaluable to defining our product strategy and evolution."

Reporting to Co-Founder and CEO Michael Tiffany, Erler will be based in the company's Brooklyn, New York headquarters. He joins White Ops from AppNexus, a world-renowned vendor offering an advanced technology platform to help build, manage and optimize online advertising businesses. While there, he managed development, initial and long-term support plans and business impact of products, including fortifying anti-fraud measures. Prior to AppNexus, he co-founded Hack C'ville, a technology and business incubator for entrepreneurs. Erler earned a B.A. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Virginia.

"Regardless of market, cybercriminals -- like businesses -- are driven by achieving the greatest return on their investment," said Erler. "Botnets are a Swiss Army Knife for criminals, allowing them to exploit a wide array of business vulnerabilities, and do so at a large scale for greatest profit. They are also a highly flexible tool that is applied to many markets with great success. White Ops has taken a unique approach to fighting botnet-driven fraud. Instead of attacking the networks or looking to expunge the individual bots themselves -- a frustrating cat-and-mouse approach employed be many technology companies -- they attack the economic model and put criminals out of business. I am very excited to be a part of this new way of doing security."

White Ops offers the first systematic solution for accurately isolating and eliminating bot-infected traffic. By applying the techniques of Side Channel Analysis across thousands of real-time user session variables, White Ops is able to accurately differentiate between a human and machine-driven request regardless of the sophistication of the bot programmer and across the full spectrum of impression and click fraud techniques. This approach is vastly more effective than methods generally employed by current fraud detection services, which rely largely on historical data and statistical and predictive analysis to detect bot activity.
