SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - August 26, 2009) - Often referred to as the backbone of America, frequently referenced in popular music, and a heated source of discussion during the 2008 Presidential election, small towns are frequently considered a triumph of the American spirit. To take a deeper look at the people and names behind these small towns, today WhitePages ( issued a list of the most popular and most searched names across 25 of America's best small towns according to CNNMoney. The list was compiled using WhitePages' best-of-class contact database, which offers trusted contact information for more than 90 percent of the US adult population, including landline phone numbers, mailing addresses, and a growing number of user contributed email addresses and cell phone numbers.

American small towns primarily use WhitePages to search for contact information for local people, possibly to connect with high school/college friends, colleagues, relatives, neighbors, or a child's friend's parents. However, some of the most frequently searched names in small towns are those of new celebrities, including Teresa Giudice in Montville, NJ, from the "Real House Wives of New Jersey" and Melissa d'Arabian from Keller, TX, who recently won the title of the Next Food Network Star. In addition, frequently searched names are often for people who could be viewed as local celebrities, like Bruce Bickel, mayor of Sammamish, WA, or for people recently in the news.

The interest by small towns in local celebrities matches those of large cities where the most frequently searched people are also local celebrities, including Michael Jackson in Los Angeles, Ed Swiderski from the Bachelorette in Chicago, and in Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees in New York. David, James, and John are the most popular small town first names for men and for women, it's Mary, Susan, and Jennifer. The most common last names are Smith, Johnson, and Lee.
