Wholesale ISP Hostopia Gaining Significant ROI From Arbor Networks Peakflow SP and Threat Management System

CHELMSFORD, MA--(Marketwire - April 28, 2009) - Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of secure service control solutions for global business networks, today announced that Hostopia, a leading provider of web services that enable small and medium-sized businesses to establish and maintain an Internet presence, has been able to mitigate a wide range of Internet threats -- including distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks -- with less staff, after deploying Arbor's Peakflow SP Threat Management System (TMS).

Hostopia was looking for a holistic solution, one that could not only detect but also defend against DDoS attacks. After investigating several vendor offerings, Hostopia chose and deployed Arbor's Peakflow SP Threat Management System (TMS) in 2007, which detects and surgically mitigates DDoS attacks. By configuring the Arbor Peakflow SP TMS devices to automatically mitigate attacks that exceed a certain threshold, Hostopia is able to automate tasks that previously required a team of their most skilled networking and operations staff.

"Before we deployed Arbor Networks products, the amount of time and staffing resources that we had to dedicate to stopping Internet attacks was quite significant," said Dirk Bhagat, Hostopia's chief technology officer. "Working with Arbor, we have really seen dramatic improvements in workflow and a significant reduction in staffing requirements related to network protection from denial of service and other Internet-based attacks. We have found a true partner in Arbor Networks, they go above and beyond to make sure we are maximizing our investment."

"The size and frequency of Internet attacks have increased 250 percent over the last three years and there are no signs that they will let up," said Danny McPherson, Arbor Networks chief security officer. "In addition, we've seen providers' network security resources become strained, due to increasing cost and revenue pressure in a slowing global economy. As a result, many companies like Hostopia have deployed Arbor products to strengthen and secure their networks, so that they can continue to deliver excellent customer service without interruption."

Hostopia provides wholesale private-label hosting, managed email and application services to telcos, Internet service providers (ISPs), cable operators, hosting providers and domain registrars. Hostopia's automated provisioning and support systems enable service providers to increase their profits, offer superior features to their end-users, and reduce the risks and challenges of delivering reliable, high-performance Web services including: small-business hosting and applications, business-class email and consumer email.

Arbor Peakflow SP currently protects more than 70% of the world's ISP networks from security threats such as DDoS attacks, botnets and worms, as well as network issues, such as traffic and routing instability. The Peakflow SP platform improves Hostopia's intrusion detection; optimizes its traffic data and management; and provides useful analytics to speed repair of occurrences and problems. Additionally, Arbor's Threat Management System (TMS) enables Hostopia to perform intelligent mitigation and application-layer analysis through deep packet inspection that filters attack traffic while allowing legitimate traffic on towards its final destination.
