Why Your Pet Deserves 5 Star Cover

Asda Money reveals the importance of quality pet insurance for the nation's feline and canine friends, after research shows that almost half of UK households (48%)(1) have at least one pet in residence.

LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - May 10, 2013) - With the cost of private veterinarian treatment reaching as high as £2,0002 for some procedures, Asda Money reviews some of the benefits of putting high level pet insurance in place.

Veterinary fees

Although the average annual vet bill comes in at £2803, fees for veterinary treatments can vary from breed to breed. Examples cited by Association for British Insurers (ABI) reveal that treatment costs can reach as high as £8724 for emergency medical care.

Pet insurance could help to meet the costs of emergency medical treatment, including emergency surgery, if your pet should become ill or be involved in an accident.

This may also include the costs of procedures if you take your pet overseas under the Pet Travel Scheme, or if your pet requires treatment close to your departure date.

Losing your pet

Many pet insurers may also cover the purchase price of your pet should they be lost, stolen or die prematurely as a result of an injury or illness. This feature is particularly important for owners of pedigree breeds, as veterinary costs for pedigree breeds can often cost more than crossbreeds, because they are more prone to inherited medical conditions4.

A pet insurance cover policy may also help to meet the cost of advertising for your lost pet, and in some cases paying for the cost of the reward up to a specified limit.

Third party liability

If your dog causes damage or injury to someone else's property, this may also be covered by your pet insurance. Having third party liability in place will help dog owners avoid large legal bills should a case be brought against them in relation to their pet.

Defaqto 5 cover - The difference

The range of comprehensive of features and benefits included Asda Pet Insurance's Superior Cover has earned it a Defaqto 5 star rating.
