Widen Enterprises Presents Funk Out Cancer

Annual Concert and Silent Auction to Raise Money for the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center

MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - Sep 26, 2013) - Widen Enterprises, makers of digital asset management software (DAM), announced today that the company will be the presenting sponsor of Funk Out Cancer, a concert and silent auction that raises money for the UW Carbone Cancer Center. An annual event held in memory of Kate Gates Falaschi, Funk Out Cancer will take place on October 19, 2013, at Madison's Barrymore Theatre. Doors and the silent auction will open at 7 pm and the performances will begin at 8 pm.

"This memorial is a party and a good time. Funk Out Cancer is an extension of Kate's personality and the way she lived," said Al Falaschi, husband of Kate Falaschi, founder and organizer of Funk Out Cancer and customer marketing manager at Widen. "Last time, we raised over $35,000 for the Carbone Cancer Center. This year we plan to break our record."

Funk Out Cancer 2013 will include performances by Phat Phunktion, Young Blood Brass Band and a 'supergroup' that combines the talent of both groups along with Mama Digdown's Brass Band. Current auction items include an Aaron Rodgers signed jersey, 4 nights at the Hacienda Tres Rios Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and a BadgerMax Lunch with Ron Dayne at Buffalo Wild Wings.

The money raised at Funk Out Cancer will support the research of Dr. Dusty Deming at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Dr. Deming aims to develop a more personalized and effective approach to colorectal cancer. In conjunction with Dr. Richard Halberg, he is creating novel mouse models of colorectal cancer that allow them to investigate how individual differences in cancers change tumor biology, including response to therapies. Their eventual goal is to develop treatment strategies that are best suited for individual types of colorectal cancer.

"Funk Out Cancer is very important to the UW Carbone Cancer Center," said Craig Robida, external relations manager at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. "This event has raised crucial research dollars for us over the years and for this we are most appreciative. Al has created a truly special way to give back to the institution where his loved one received treatment and to help fight the disease that took Kate. We cannot do the work we do without the support of events like Funk Out Cancer."

In addition to Widen Enterprises, other sponsors have gone above and beyond to make Funk Out Cancer a success, including Funk Out Cancer's media partner, Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Madison.

"When the organizers of Funk Out Cancer approached us about being media partners we jumped at the chance," said Tim Scott, AM operations manager at Clear Channel. "Our stations have a long history of commitment to the Madison community and we take pride in supporting events like Funk Out Cancer."

All six Clear Channel stations (Z104, 96.3 STAR Country, 101.5 WIBA-FM, News/Talk 1310, The BIG 1070, and 92.1 The Mic) have embraced the event with a promotional campaign that includes produced on air messaging, live interviews with event organizers, strategic placement on the station web and social media sites and inclusion in database e-blasts.

The Funk Out Cancer organizers are also grateful for the support of Hollister, Mason Companies, Inc., Monkey Bar Gymnasium and M3 Insurance.

About Funk Out Cancer
Catherine Helene Gates Falaschi was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2006 at the age of 29. Just a week before, Al Falaschi, Widen's marketing manager, had proposed to Kate. Over the next three years, Kate fought the disease with strength, grace and an inspiring sense of humor. Before her passing, she asked friends to organize a memorial concert for her if she ended up losing her battle with cancer. Funk Out Cancer was organized to fulfill her wish.
