Widevine to Provide Rovi With Digital Entertainment Content Streaming Solutions

Rovi's TotalGuide™ to Support Widevine's Video Optimization and DRM Technologies

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - January 7, 2010) - Widevine® today announced that it will be collaborating with Rovi Corporation to make Widevine's adaptive streaming, interactive DVD/Blu-ray features and DRM technologies available in CE devices powered by Rovi's TotalGuide™. Widevine's software solution will be supported by Rovi's next generation media guide, designed to help consumers navigate broadcast, broadband and personal content from one user interface, streamlining the development of digital entertainment devices for chip and device manufacturers. The agreement includes the ability for Rovi to resell Widevine's technology.

The Widevine platform is utilized by major Internet content services and large cable, satellite and telecommunication companies launching "TV Everywhere" strategies. Its technologies help ensure that content remains secure on any device consumers are using while providing the best entertainment experience possible. By pairing with Rovi's TotalGuide, consumers will be able to have access on their TVs to more content, such as movies and TV shows, from more providers.

"Rovi's TotalGuide is designed to simplify consumer access to content on TV screens. Enabling Widevine's technology through TotalGuide makes it possible for us to empower consumers to access and enjoy more of the content they've subscribed to, purchased or rented," said Sean Besser, VP of business development for Rovi Corporation.

"We are pleased that our technologies will be supported in Rovi's TotalGuide. The combination of Rovi and Widevine creates a turn-key digital entertainment solution for device manufacturers," said Brian Baker, Widevine CEO. "This relationship will extend Widevine's already pervasive inclusion in network-connected Blu-ray players, TVs, mobile internet devices, personal video recorders, gaming systems and other home media platforms."
