Widevine® Awarded 2007 Product of the Year for Best Content Protection Technology

Widevine Wins Award Two Years in a Row

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - September 11, 2007) - Widevine Technologies, the leading provider of downloadable conditional access, digital rights management and digital copy protection solutions for 125+ video operators worldwide, today announced that its highly successful Widevine Cypher® for the PC solution has won the prestigious Cable & Satellite International Product of the Year Award for Best Content Protection at the International Broadcasters Conference in Amsterdam. It is the second year in a row Widevine has won the award for Best Content Protection, this time for a solution that has also been selected by three major studios for their own digital media initiatives.

Judging is conducted by a panel of independent industry experts that includes CTOs, senior technologists from international broadcasters, network operators and industry analysts. Cable & Satellite International defines the following criteria for judges to rank winners: technical innovation, product usefulness, uniqueness and proven deployments. Judges selected Cypher for the PC because of its unique ability to secure all forms of digital media to PC and PC-based consumer platforms.

The Cable & Satellite International Product of the Year Awards 2007 continue to maintain a reputation as the most comprehensive and competitive technology awards in the industry. This year more than 160 entries were received from over 80 companies in the areas of Internet, Cable, Telco and Satellite TV.

Brian Baker, CEO and founder stated, "Widevine has a seven year head start in delivering multiplatform and multiformat content protection solutions for PC delivery. Our success with major content owners -- who have chosen our Cypher for the PC solution for their own Internet TV initiatives -- is proof our solution can sufficiently secure the assets and revenues for video operators who want to expand into PC delivery. That recognition was validated for the second year in a row by industry representatives as worthy of a best content protection award."

Widevine Cypher for the PC is a multiplatform and multiformat content protection solution for securing linear broadcast, VOD, streamed media and file downloads to PC and PC-based consumer devices. In contrast to traditional technologies -- such as Apple's FairPlay and Microsoft's Windows Media DRM -- which restrict content purchase and usage to specific devices, video formats and online services, Cypher for the PC secures content delivered to any platform, in any format, to any PC-based device.

This Switzerland of DRM approach for securing multimedia content enables content owners, Internet service operators, telcos and cable operators the flexibility they require to deliver premium content to the widest possible audience. Widevine Cypher for the PC also includes a patented layer of post-decryption copy protection technology to thwart piracy techniques that are commonly used to steal content off PC and other untrusted consumer platforms.
