Wiggle Mountain Bike Rider Prepares to Defend National Title

Wiggle Cyclist Prepares to Defend Title at 24 Hours of Exposure Event

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 6, 2011) - Wiggle bike shop rider Matt Page is looking forward to defending his title at the 24 Hours of Exposure mountain bike race this weekend. The cycle event, which takes place in the Scottish Borders, incorporates both the UK and European 24 hour solo titles - so it's a race Matt is keen to win.

The Welshman said: "As defending champion my aims are clear: I want to win the title again. The European title is also important but it is a secondary goal and I'll be concentrating on the UK title first and foremost."

The race begins at noon tomorrow and competitors will go head to head for 24 hours of non-stop riding around a 10-12 mile off-road loop in Newcastleton, famed for its great mountain bike rides. The rider completing the most laps in the least time is crowned the winner.

Matt said: "Training and preparation have gone well. I did the Wiggle Enduro6 Event last weekend and my legs feel good. I'm certainly ready for the challenge."

Ensuring his mountain bikes, kit, nutrition pack and cycling apparel are all prepared is one of the most important aspects of Matt's pre-race build-up. He has been sponsored by Wiggle for several seasons, saying: "I am hugely grateful to Wiggle for their support and generosity. I have two new mountain bikes this year - Rocky Mountain Element RSLs - both with identical specifications, as bike changes will be needed to ensure the fastest possible times. Getting on a different bike at 1am is a horrible feeling!"

He added: "Wiggle nutrition packs play a massive role in 24 hour events and several different kinds of energy drinks and gels are needed for different points in the race. I use Torq Energy Drink, High5 4:1 and High5 Xtreme as well as Torq gels, Clif Bars and Clif Shot Blocks. After the race I use Torq's recovery drink, but I have been known to use it during the race too. I'm really looking forward to this mountain bike race and performing to the very best of my ability."

Martin Talbot, Wiggle's director of marketing, said: "We are only too proud to support Matt and on behalf of all the Wiggle bike shop team we wish him the very best of luck this weekend."
