Wightman Telecom Selects Enablence for IP Voice Upgrade

Rural Telecom Leverages Enablence BroadAccess Platform to Deliver IP Voice Services Across Ontario

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 26, 2011) - Enablence Technologies Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ENA), a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment and multi-service access platforms for triple-play, residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro and long-haul markets, announced today that Wightman Telecom has selected the Enablence BroadAccess Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP) for the delivery of residential voice, video and data services. The Enablence upgrade to Wightman Telecom's legacy Digital Central Office (DCO) infrastructure ensures that the company will maximize investments in existing copper lines as it continues its upgrade to next-generation, FTTH services across Ontario.

Wightman is an Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC), with an additional Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) business unit that provides Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Interexchange Carrier (IXC) services, delivering voice, data and video to a total of 23,000 residential and business customers in 17 southwestern Ontario-based exchanges. Wightman has already deployed the Enablence platform as its fiber-based network infrastructure for the next-generation CLEC unit, and will now tap the BroadAccess solution to modernize the Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure of its copper-based voice lines.

"We were in need of an affordable solution that would allow us to maximize ROI on our existing copper infrastructure while keeping an eye on future fiber investments," explained Tom Sullivan, vice president and general manager of Wightman Telecom. "Enablence's BroadAccess was the only solution that could offer us the relevant, reliable technology we needed to transform our network, at a competitive price point."

"Enablence understands that companies like Wightman view a complete, fiber access network transformation as the end-goal; however, the cost and time involved can take many years to complete. These ILEC and CLEC customers need to deliver carrier-grade services over the infrastructure that is in place today, while continuing their next-generation fiber migration," said Tim Thorsteinson, Chief Executive Officer of Enablence. "The BroadAccess gives our customers the flexible, affordable solution they need to migrate their networks to a highly scalable broadband infrastructure that will take them and their end-users far into the future."
