WildPackets TimeLine Network Recorder Awarded "Performance Verified" by Miercom

Miercom Tags TimeLine at Greater Than 11Gbps as One of the Fastest, Continuous Network Capture and Analysis Products in Its Class

WALNUT CREEK, CA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2010) - WildPackets, Inc. (www.wildpackets.com), a leading provider of network and application performance analysis solutions, today announced that Miercom, specialists in networking and communications-related product testing, has awarded WildPackets TimeLine network recorder "Performance Verified" based on Miercom's independent testing. The testing also identified TimeLine as one of the fastest, continuous network capture and analysis products in its class.

"The rapid deployment and increased utilization of 10Gig networks are changing the face of network analysis," said Tony Barbagallo, Vice President of Marketing at WildPackets. "Network engineers need solutions that can capture and store sustained network traffic in excess of 10Gbps, while still providing real-time network statistics. TimeLine does exactly that and has now been identified by Miercom as one of the fastest and most capable products available today."

The TimeLine network recorder was evaluated by Miercom for performance and functionality of its forensic capture and real-time monitoring capabilities. Miercom testing showed that TimeLine simultaneously analyzes and stores network traffic at a sustained rate of over 11Gbps with zero packet loss. Miercom also found that TimeLine displays crucial network statistics in an intuitive visual format without having a negative impact on the capture-to-disk rate, and that historical data retrieval efficiency is maximized.

"We are impressed with the capture-to-disk performance of WildPackets' TimeLine Network Recorder," said Robert Smithers, CEO of Miercom, an independent test lab. "With a capture-to-disk rate of 11.2 Gbps and zero packet loss, the superior performance is an example of the excellent design of TimeLine for use in network forensic analysis."

According to the final report published by Miercom, "Complex networks need the capabilities of network forensics to ensure that they are running at top performance without network issues. We were impressed by the amount of information that is available when the TimeLine network recorder is running in real-time monitoring mode. The TimeLine network recorder was able to analyze 1000 concurrent simulated VoIP calls and display information about the calls without compromising the performance of the appliance. This recorder shows superior design and performance for use in network forensic analysis."

"Due to the constant growth in network traffic, enterprises deploying 10Gb networks no longer have the luxury of using under-rated packet analysis solutions due to the increasing risk of dropping packets during high usage," said Jim Frey, Research Director, Enterprise Management Associates. "WildPackets is addressing this critical need with their new TimeLine solution, so much-needed visibility into highly utilized networks can be reliably assured by eliminating the risk of losing critical data. Additionally, their approach to quick retrieval and analysis reduces the time and effort needed to reproduce and troubleshoot intermittent network and application performance issues."
