Will Budget Be Thirsty Work for George?

Three sips of water and 76 mentions of "Tax" predicted during Chancellor's speech

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) - Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will mention "tax" 76 times and keep his composure by taking a drink three times during today's Budget speech, according to leading spread betting firm Sporting Index.

The firm is also inviting punters to challenge their prediction that Osborne's speech will last a total of 54 minutes and that he will hear the phrase, "Order, Order!" eight times.

Whilst he would love to avoid the 'T word', Sporting Index predict the Chancellor will mention "tax" more than any other. They expect more "Billions" than "Millions", with 42 and 19 mentions respectively, while "Euro" (6) will be heard more times than "health" and "education" (5 each).

"Osborne had four sips of water during his interim Budget last June, but we estimate it will be one fewer today," comments Sporting Index spokesman Wayne Lincoln. "Our politics traders have found some of these markets very difficult to estimate due to Osborne's peculiarities, so while most of the UK will be interested to hear where they will save money, our traders want to hear quite a few 'taxes'!"
