William Gillespie, MD Joins Medecision as EVP, Population Health & CMO

Healthcare Industry Veteran Known for Driving Disruptive Change, Gillespie Set to Build on Population Health Enablement

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwired - August 25, 2016) - Medecision, the leader in population health management solutions for risk-bearing healthcare organizations like provider- and payer-sponsored ACOs, hospitals, IDNs, and health plans, announced that transformation trailblazer Dr. William Gillespie has joined as EVP, Population Health Management and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Gillespie has served as Chief Medical Officer for EmblemHealth, the largest not-for-profit health plan in New York and Connecticut. Previously, Dr. Gillespie was with Kaiser Permanente for more than two decades, including several years as EVP and COO of the Kaiser Permanente Regions outside California. After Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Gillespie was CEO of OptumHealth, a specialty services division of UnitedHealth Group with specialty networks, disease management, and behavioral health programs. He then served as Chief Medical Officer for Ovations, the UnitedHealth Group Medicare division. Most recently, Dr. Gillespie was president and CEO of AdvantageCare Physicians, P.C., a 450-physician group practice serving patients throughout the New York area.

Healthcare organizations shifting to value-based models must make a myriad of risk and value contracting decisions, all with distinct operational and technical requirements. With 30 years of experience in clinical practice, healthcare systems and operations, Dr. Gillespie has proven success in leading strategy and complex execution initiatives. Accordingly, Dr. Gillespie's role focuses on three areas critical to the success of Medecision's clients, all of which are embracing population accountability and value-based contracting-population health management model development; best practices to accelerate client value; and leadership of the Company's clinical strategy for technology, operations and service delivery. Dr. Gillespie's role includes executive leadership of client account management of the Company's care delivery, health plan and government health plan clients.

Dr. Gillespie also spearheads the Company's participation as a founding member of the largest accountable care collaborative in the world, the Accountable Care Learning Collaborative (ACLC). Housed at Western Governors University (WGU) and co-chaired by former HHS Secretary Governor Mike Leavitt and former CMS administrator and FDA Commissioner Dr. Mark McClellan, the nonprofit collaborative offers maturing Accountable Care Organizations insight into how to effectively implement accountable care, and scale and grow clinically, financially and politically. Dr. Gillespie will lead the effort to convene Medecision and client and partner innovators to define and optimize clinical workflow and financial tools that meet accountable care quality and cost goals.

"Our industry is markedly closer to benefiting from the promise of accountable care and population health, but the work of accelerating sustainable models remains ahead of us," said Deborah M. Gage, president and CEO, Medecision. "Bill has spent his entire career successfully managing organizations with different risk profiles through difficult and complex transitions. His mission matches ours -- to liberate healthcare from the messy data, organizational stasis and inefficient processes that prevent Triple Aim achievement."

"It's an exciting time for me to join an organization as committed to liberating healthcare as Medecision is," Dr. Gillespie said. "I am looking forward to partnering with our network of healthcare system and payer partners to help implement the strategic vision, best practice capabilities, and technology platform vital to the success of their population health management efforts."

Dr. Gillespie is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He attended the Executive Management Program at Stanford University School of Business and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University and is a lecturer at the Yale School of Public Health. He is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, is Board certified in pediatrics, and is licensed in New York and Connecticut.
