Williams Controls Names Gary Hafner VP of Global Manufacturing

PORTLAND, OR -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 20, 2006 -- Williams Controls, Inc. (OTCBB: WCON) announced today the promotion of Gary Hafner to Vice President of Global Manufacturing at Williams Controls. In this position, Hafner will be responsible for Williams' worldwide manufacturing facilities and operations, as well as the company's global sourcing, materials management, logistics and purchasing. Most recently, Gary has served as Williams Controls' Manufacturing Manager, focusing on the development and implementation of the Toyota Production system in Portland and lean manufacturing processes throughout the company. Hafner has also been instrumental in the start up of Williams' Suzhou, China manufacturing facility.

Gary Hafner joined Williams Controls in 1999 as the Production Manager of its Portland, Oregon facility. Prior to that, Gary was a Production Manager at Warn Industries, where he was responsible for the implementation the company's Toyota Production system in its component parts operation. Gary also worked as a Production Manager at Central Machine Works of Portland, Oregon, where he had responsibility for the daily operations of the company.

Hafner earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
