Williams Financial Group Celebrates 20 Years and Plans for the Next 20

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - When Williams Financial Group (WFG) first opened its doors, they led into a small office in a Park Central commercial tower. Today, the company fills the building's entire third floor.

"We started with three people, including my wife Judy who ran operations," says Wilson Williams, founder and CEO. WFG is currently home to 250 brokers and advisors plus a support staff of 50. Accounts and assets managed have enjoyed similar growth, from 200 accounts valued at $10 million to the group's current 60,000 accounts valued at $6.5 billion.

Williams, who began his financial services career as an E.F. Hutton broker, credits a mid-1980s shift in the business environment as the impetus for starting his company. "The time was right for independent brokerage," he explains. "Clients were hungry for more individualized service, and brokers were looking for more autonomy than the traditional financial services firms could offer."

Williams' business model gives brokers and advisors who join WFG the option of operating independently by providing its representatives the necessary broker/dealer and advisory support services. "Our brokers and advisors have access to the same back-office operations and administration functions that large financial institutions perform, but without sacrificing their freedom. They can shape their practices to fit their own expertise and the needs of their clients," notes Williams. "Some focus on a single area of advice, while others create a hybrid approach. There's a great deal of flexibility."

The flexibility Williams references is made possible by a complete spectrum of product offerings, accessed through the four component companies of the WFG holding company: WFG Investments Inc., a full-service broker/dealer; WFG Advisors, LP, a fee-based asset-management company; WFG Strategic Alliance Inc., providing insurance-based investment products; and WFG Capital LP, specializing in alternative investments.

Judging from WFG's growth over the past two decades, the independent broker/advisor model is equally attractive to clients. "Most brokers and advisors work for large financial services companies. WFG brokers and advisors work for clients," says Williams, adding that the company prides itself in exemplary customer service. "Our growth isn't based on sales and marketing," he adds, "but on the word of mouth that comes from taking care of our clients."

While the company is pleased to be celebrating its 20-year anniversary, its focus remains on the future. WFG continues to add key staff members, increase the efficiency of the organizational structure and upgrade its technology systems.

"Very few broker/dealer companies our size ever reach the 20-year milestone. Although we certainly don't take this anniversary lightly," says Williams, "we are preparing for the next level."
