GROVE, UK--(Marketwire - Jul 4, 2011) -
WGF1 WILLIAMS SIGNS SECOND CAR MANUFACTURER PARTNERSHIP IN TWO MONTHS 4 July 2011. Grove, UK. Williams F1, the Formula One team of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC, today announced a partnership in Formula One with Renault. This announcement closely follows the announcement in May by Jaguar and Williams of a partnership to build the C-X75 supercar together. Under today's announcement, Renault Sport F1, the F1 division of Renault, will supply AT&T Williams with its championship-winning V8 power units for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In addition to the supply of its Formula One engines, the newly-formed alliance includes several other exciting business and marketing opportunities, with a view to continue the partnership as the new, energy-efficient, hybrid and turbocharged V6 engines arrive in the sport in 2014. The partnership is an exciting opportunity for both Renault Sport F1 and AT&T Williams. The original Anglo-French alliance enjoyed a hugely successful association between 1989 and 1997, yielding four Drivers' and five Constructors' titles and 63 race wins. It also produced some of the most evocative images of the 1990s, including Nigel Mansell's British Grand Prix win in 1992; Alain Prost's fourth world title and the classic duels between Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher. Adam Parr, Chairman, said: "When we launched our Initial Public Offering to investors in February, we set out a strategy based on establishing partnerships with car manufacturers both inside and outside Formula One. In May we announced a ground-breaking partnership with Jaguar which will see us design and build together the world's first supercar with super-low emissions. Today, we have launched a partnership with Renault which will not only see Williams powered by their World Championship-winning V8s but working together to develop a range of commercial and technical opportunities. As a racing team we are delighted with the technical and sporting benefits this partnership offers; as a company, this puts in place the foundations we need to grow and develop the business over the coming years."
