Williams Scotsman Provides Modular Elementary School to Tornado-Stricken Community in Joplin, Missouri

Company Continues to Serve as a Critical Partner in Disaster Relief Efforts Across the Country

BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - Aug 29, 2011) - Williams Scotsman, a leading provider of modular space and storage solutions in North America, today announced the completion of Emerson Elementary, a modular school in Joplin, Mo., which was built to replace one of the many schools destroyed by the tornado that swept through the region in May.

In an attempt to restore a sense of normalcy to the area, school superintendent C.J. Huff pledged that schools would reopen on August 17, as planned. In just one month a new modular building was completed proving the viability of the construction approach, which touts a faster time to occupancy over conventional construction methods. At the start of the school year, Emerson Elementary students were transitioned to the new modular school building located on the Duquesne campus, 1301 South Duquesne Road.

"We understand the hardships individuals in this community face and we are pleased to be able to provide a service that is critical to the rebuilding efforts," said Joseph Vecchiolla, senior vice president of US Field Operations for Algeco Scotsman. "Modular construction continues to be a sound solution for disaster recovery efforts where services need to be restored quickly and efficiently."

Williams Scotsman delivered nine modular units, which were assembled on site to create 8,000 square feet of space for students, teachers and administrators. In addition to the modular buildings, Williams Scotsman provided electrical, plumbing, fire safety, phone and data services. The building features eight classrooms and two lavatories.

As a mobile space provider for more than 50 years, Williams Scotsman can provide immediate space solutions for emergency situations including: classrooms; offices for medical, business and administrative use; commercial storage units; toilet trailers; and shower and locker facilities.

In the aftermath of a tornado or other natural disaster, customers have come to rely on Williams Scotsman in their recovery efforts. In an effort to help customers prior to storms as well as with recovery efforts, Williams Scotsman published a modular space hurricane preparedness white paper. The paper, entitled "A Modular Space Planning Guide to Hurricane Preparedness: Before and After," highlights recommended courses of action to prepare mobile units for inclement weather. The guide also provides suggestions to mitigate damage and loss after a storm hits. To access the white paper, go to http://www.willscot.com/Hurricane.
