Wind Energy TechnoCentre/Announcement of the Wind Energy Industry Conference: Develop, Innovate, Export and Quebec's First Wind Energy Industry Gala

MATANE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 12, 2008) - The Wind Energy TechnoCentre and its principal partners, Canada Economic Development and the Ministere du Developpement economique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation, have launched the Wind energy industry conference: Develop, Innovate, Export which will be held at Hotel Riotel in Matane from May 6 to 8, 2008.

The conference, which expects to draw nearly 250 participants, will focus on three themes: current and future requests for proposals in Quebec, innovation, and exports. Some fifteen reputed speakers will be sharing their knowledge and experience. The event will allow participants to learn more about the industry's current and future issues, discover potential business opportunities in Canada and abroad, and establish key relations with leading wind energy players.

"Once the requests for proposals currently underway in the province are concluded, wind farm construction will fall considerably, and very quickly there will be downward pressure on domestic demand for wind turbine components and services. So Quebec's businesses will have to draw up their innovation and export strategies today if they wish to continue to be competitive members of the wind energy network. This is the context in which this event will be taking place," says Andre Lemieux, Wind Energy TechnoCentre General Manager

Furthermore, the conference will set the stage for Quebec's first wind energy industry gala, to be held on May 7, in the evening. The Gala, presented by Hydro-Quebec, aims to salute the organisations and individuals who have made particularly outstanding contributions to the wind energy sector in Quebec over the past three years. This first edition features five categories:

1. Advancement

2. Outreach

3. Rising star

4. Personality of the year

5. Organisation of the year

Organisations and individuals who wish to submit nominations for the gala have until March 31, 2008 to do so. A knowledgeable jury will be responsible for selecting the finalists and winners.

- Clement Drolet, Director, Chemistry, Plastics Processing, Metallurgy and Equipment Directorate, Ministere du Developpement economique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation
