Wind Energy TechnoCentre Receives Funding From Government of Canada

MATANE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 10, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, announces the renewal of a three-year funding agreement between Canada Economic Development and the Wind Energy TechnoCentre. This financial assistance will enable the organization to pursue its mission to further the development in Quebec of a wind energy industry that is competitive on both a North American and global scale.

"The wind energy sector is growing rapidly and will become increasingly important in terms of job creation. That is why the Government of Canada is pleased to support the activities of the Wind Energy TechnoCentre," said Minister Lebel.

Unique in Quebec, the Wind Energy TechnoCentre is also distinctive among the world's wind energy research facilities as it is the only centre specializing in the study of wind power in northern climates with state-of-the-art infrastructure located in a life-size laboratory. The TechnoCentre is a major asset for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine in that its presence serves to attract new investment and enterprises to the region. As a specialized research centre, it helps businesses in the sector develop, test and commercialize their innovative products and processes here and abroad. Founded in 2000, this non-profit organization works in close collaboration with Quebec universities and CEGEPs and plays an important part in the recruitment and training of researchers and highly-skilled staff.

"Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," Minister Lebel concluded.

This assistance, granted in the form of a $3,056,227 non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Quebec Economic Development Program.
