Windsor Chartered Accountant and prominent business leader Carlos Redfern, CA, has been re-elected President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario's Essex Kent District CA Association. The District Association is the CA profession's local presence and organizes activities that benefit local Chartered Accountants and the community at large.

In addition to helping to serve, represent and provide fellowship among local CAs, the District Association also helps bring the Institute's many programs to its members, while also organizing important community events, such as tax clinics for people with low incomes.

Carlos Redfern is a Manager within the Financial Advisory group of Deloitte's South Western Ontario practice based in Windsor. A CA since 2006, his focus is working with clients to provide valuation, merger and acquisition, and restructuring services. Redfern is committed to serving the manufacturing and consumer businesses in the region. He is also Certified Public Accountant from Colorado and currently pursuing his Chartered Business Valuator designation.

Redfern has been involved with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in many levels. He has been an Applications Committee member since 2007. Prior to joining the District Association in 2006, Redfern was involved with the local CA student association, where he served as President and Senior Advisor until 2008. During the same time he served as Branch Chair/Secretary for the Chartered Accountants Student's Association of Ontario, where he provided guidance to the various student associations in the province.

Redfern is part of the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way and has spearheaded the involvement of CA's and professionals in the FDJ Dragon Boats for the Cure festival. In 2009 Redfern was recognized by the profession as up-and-coming talent with both laudable past achievements and very bright future by receiving the 2009 ICAO Award of Distinction an award intended to honour younger CAs.

"The District Association in Essex-Kent is a strong voice for local Chartered Accountants and a real asset for our community," said Redfern. "Throughout the years the DA has held an annual CA Golf tournament that helped raise money towards local charities. In addition, we have supported the local CA students in supporting the FDJ International Dragon Boat festival, which over the years have raised over $1 million for breast cancer research. I am extremely honoured to continue serving as the DA President"

"The CA profession is in the forefront of our province's economy, and important to communities of all types and sizes," said Rod Barr, FCA, President and CEO of the Institute. "We believe that strong District Associations help build and strengthen the CA designation and our profession's contribution to Ontario's prosperity."
