Windy Warnings from Swinton Home Insurance

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 14, 2010) - With the heavy winds set to continue across the UK, Swinton Insurance is warning homeowners to protect their building in case of accidental damage.

Swinton, the UK's leading high street retailer of home insurance is offering some advice for homeowners to protect their homes after a survey of 1,200 online customers showed that 11% had suffered damage in the past due to high winds.

Homeowners need to check their buildings insurance to ensure they are covered for storm damage otherwise they could be left with a hefty repair cost.

Swinton is offering the following advice to protect your home:

  • Close all doors and windows in heavy winds. It is also a good idea to close the curtains or blinds because if anything does come through the window, this will stop the glass flying everywhere.

  • Ensure you have a torch and candles, heavy winds can bring down power lines causing blackouts.

  • Ensure fence panels, outdoor furniture and anything else that could be lifted in a strong wind is secure.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "Storm damage is generally an automatic inclusion to household policies but it's always a good idea to double check your policy to ensure you are adequately covered."
