Wines for Humanity Launched to Help Raise Money for the Prevention of Homelessness

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - A new and exciting direct sales concept has emerged in the Midwest -- and not only is it bringing people together to enjoy wine, but it is also raising money for the local charities!

Wines for Humanity conducts in-home wine tastings that educate guests about fine wines while in the process raising money for local charities. Wines for Humanity donates a percentage of every tasting's revenue to charities that work for the prevention of homelessness in families with children.

The organization was the brain child of president Anton Steinhart, who has been in the wine business for over 30 years. Before retiring, he wanted to create a company that gave back to the community in an unprecedented way -- by teaching people about wine. Always a generous person, he saw an opportunity to help less fortunate families by sharing his passion for wine. "Our goal is that no family in America, with children, should become homeless through circumstances beyond their control," Steinhart says.

The premise of a Wines for Humanity wine tasting is simple -- a Wine Advisor brings 7 exclusive wines, ranging from light whites to rich reds. The Wine Advisors explain everything from how to correctly taste wine (there is a correct method!) to what food pairs with the wines to create an ideal meal. Guests discuss and enjoy the wines as they learn about different wine styles and global regions.

"Basically what we do is go into people's homes and do wine tasting parties," explains Judy Kocinski, a Wine Advisor in the St. Louis area. "We give them a little history of the wine, where it came from, and what grapes are used. Then we teach them how to taste it. Then we have a good time after that!"

Guests at tastings may select bottles that they enjoyed, which are then shipped directly to their homes. A portion of each bottle's cost is donated to the local charity as well. "The neatest part of the whole thing is that [on average] $2.00 per bottle goes toward the prevention of homelessness in families with children," Kocinski said.

Because Wines for Humanity offers so many exclusive wines, one can attend or host several tastings without trying the same wine twice!
