Winning Olympic Athletes TAP Into Ways to Improve the American Economy by Buying American

TAP America Commits to Honor 2012 U.S. Olympic Medal Winners With $10,000 in Gift Certificates Toward the Purchase of American-Made Goods

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Aug 22, 2012) - Our U.S. medal-winning Olympians bring us tremendous pride as a nation. Now TAP America, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Americans to buy products made in the U.S.A., invites our medalists to use their influence for a larger cause -- to help our country remain a leader in the global economy. Towards this end, TAP America has committed to present each athlete who won a medal during the 2012 Olympic Games with a $100 gift certificate good towards the purchase of products made in the U.S.A.

"It is astounding to me that a majority of the uniforms worn by the U.S. Olympic team were made overseas in countries like China," said Mark Bloome, Founder of TAP America. "We at TAP America believe that each citizen must take the initiative to purchase products manufactured in our own country to truly make a difference in stimulating our domestic economy. We applaud our medal winners and are honored to present them with these gift certificates."

In some cases it is nearly impossible to find an American-made product, especially with respect to electronics, clothing, and many other categories. However, if each American citizen spends an additional $1 per day on American goods, it will create or save up to 1 million U.S. jobs. It is up to our leaders, including our politicians, entertainers, and athletes to lead the way for Americans to spend money on America.

"We ask the American public to reach into their pockets and donate to TAP America to help us honor our U.S. athletes who brought such honor to our country," said Richard Tso, Executive Director of TAP America. "Your donations help fund programs like this and help keep our non-profit organization alive."

TAP America recently announced their TAP Certified Merchant program to encourage stores to stock at least 20% of U.S. goods and to increase their American made inventories by just 1% per month. As incentive, businesses who sign up are featured in news articles, included in the TAP online business directory, and are featured in a Groupon-like service called AmeriCoupon that helps people find deals on products made in America.

Since launching in January of 2011, TAP has created national awareness campaigns aimed at buying American-made goods, promoting tolerance, and encouraging people to stay physically active. For more information about TAP America, to volunteer or to make a donation, please visit
