Wireless Matrix Introduces EDGE-Enabled Wireless Communicator

RESTON, VIRGINIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 24, 2006) - Wireless Matrix Corporation (TSX:WRX) introduced today the Terrestrial Mobile Base Station 2 (T-MBS2), a GPRS/EDGE enabled communicator for mobile resource management and vehicle fleet applications.

The T-MBS2 integrates GPRS/EDGE cellular capability, 802.11b Wireless LAN, and a GPS receiver in a single, compact device. EDGE delivers up to 115 Kbps actual throughput for rapid communications to and from fleet vehicles. The 802.11b functionality supports in-yard or out-of-vehicle communications with a laptop or hand-held computer. The unit also features an embedded Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) application that provides vehicle location and status information for better tracking and coordination of mobile assets.

The T-MBS2 provides multiple standard device interface options, including Ethernet and RS232, and supports up to two alarm inputs or outputs.

The compact and study design easily fits under the dashboard or front seat of a commercial vehicle or service truck, providing a rugged fleet management tool to help track the vehicle asset and extend the home office out to the mobile worker.

"The T-MBS2 is an important and exciting addition to our communication hardware offerings," Wireless Matrix President and CEO J. Richard Carlson said. "With the addition of EDGE capability, we can now deploy solutions across both of the major high-speed wireless data networks, along with Wireless LAN and satellite. This offers customers the broadest flexibility in managing their mobile resources across emerging broadband networks."

Shipments of T-MBS2 orders are expected to begin in January 2007.

The T-MBS2 joins the highly successful line of Wireless Matrix mobile resource management communication products, which includes the CDMA-EVDO equipped Vehicle Telematics Communication Unit (VTCU), the multi-mode Low Profile Mobile Base Station 2 (MBS2-LP), and the MBS2-LPR, the first communication unit specifically designed for the demanding locomotive operation environment.
