With Its Market Niche Identified, Cross Country Containers Focuses on Expanding Its Fleet and Client Base, in African Business Review

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - May 1, 2012) - In a report in African Business Review, the transformation of Cross Country Containers from a small rail brokerage company into to a fully fledged road transportation company serving many African nations in little more than a decade is examined.

Cross Country Containers was established in Zimbabwe and today maintains a fleet of more than 120 trucks. Owned and operated from Zimbabwe with its head office in Harare, the company has grown considerably in its short lifetime and is now active across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At the time of its inception the company owned and operated just five trucks. Ever since then Cross Country Containers has been purchasing trucks on a regular basis, with its last shipment of 24 trucks in September 2011 bringing its fleet to 120 units in total.

"We are continually reinvesting in new equipment and hopefully the business will continue to grow," cites Bernard Lunga, Managing Director at Cross Country Containers. The company's wish is to operate a substantially larger fleet in the near future as Lunga explains: "We are constantly investing in the business as and when necessary and in the near future I would like to see the company operating more than 300 vehicles."

Cross Country Containers is very active in the transportation of minerals and currently its biggest business is the transportation of copper from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo into South Africa.

"We have identified our niche in the market," says Lunga, who believes that this has greatly contributed to the success of the company. "We know where our strengths and weaknesses lie, we are extremely focused and this makes us very good at what we do."
