With Release of ISO 50001, EnerNOC Sees Substantial Opportunity to Advance Energy Management

International Energy Management Standard to Be Discussed at EnergySMART 2011 Conference

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - Jun 29, 2011) - EnerNOC, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENOC), a leading provider of energy management applications and services, today announced its strong support for ISO 50001, a recently released international standard for energy management practices. EnerNOC participated in the development of the standard along with delegates from more than forty countries and sees its release as a major step forward for energy management as an organizational best practice. With its global network of more than 10,000 commercial, institutional, and industrial customer sites and its EfficiencySMART™ suite of energy efficiency applications and services, EnerNOC is uniquely positioned to introduce ISO 50001 to its customers to secure significant long-term energy savings.

"ISO 50001 certification requires firms to provide adequate resources to establish, implement, maintain and improve an energy management system," reported independent analyst firm, Verdantix, in "New ISO 50001 Aims to Tackle the Energy Governance Deficit" (June 2011). "By setting organizational boundaries at the enterprise level and involving roles such as the CFO and CEO in decision making around energy management, ISO 50001 takes decision making to a strategic level and breaks the siloed energy management approach."

Across many industries, leading firms have adopted International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards to improve quality assurance, waste reduction, environmental impact, and safety. Like other ISO standards, ISO 50001 offers an organizational framework to achieve a greater goal, in this case, energy management. Its strategies include establishing management structures to increase accountability and results, applying energy efficiency to operations and maintenance, and integrating energy into areas such as training and procurement. A detailed overview of the standard is available through ISO.

"EnerNOC's mission is to make energy management as integral as accounting to the operation of every organization. ISO 50001 is designed in the spirit of that mission, and we are proud to have participated in its development," said Tim Healy, EnerNOC's chairman and CEO. "EnerNOC's customers have already saved well over 400 million kilowatt hours of electricity through our applications and services. Now that ISO 50001 has been released, we expect even more businesses and organizations to discover the advantages of energy management."

EnerNOC's Manager of Continuous Energy Improvement, Chad Gilless, has been involved with the creation of ISO 50001 since its inception in 2008 and was the only implementation consultant to represent the United States in international negotiations in Brazil, the UK, and China. Gilless will present on how businesses, organizations, and utilities can leverage the standard at the EnergySMART 2011 Conference, as well as the ACEEE Industrial Summer Study in July and the International Energy Program Evaluation Conference (IEPEC) in August.

As of March 31, 2011, EnerNOC worked with its customers to manage energy at more than 10,000 commercial, institutional, and industrial sites. Registration for EnergySMART 2011 is open to energy management professionals worldwide.
