Wizards of the Coast Supports Northwest Gaming Tradition at PAX Prime 2010

Wizards Showcases New Game Products at Popular Event

RENTON, WA--(Marketwire - September 1, 2010) -  Wizards of the Coast, the leader in entertaining the lifestyle gamer, is leveraging popular Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) to showcase its newest products and offerings, including expanded gameplay options for fans of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and Magic: The Gathering (MTG).

During PAX, Wizards will celebrate the release of the much-anticipated 4th Edition version of the classic D&D Fantasy Roleplaying Game Starter Set. Combining nostalgic artwork with a straightforward approach to the game, the D&D Starter Set will give D&D-curious gamers a way to get introduced to the game. Additionally, the product's all-in-one board game feel makes it the ideal product for families, giving long-time gamers a way to welcome their kids to the game.

With the release of this product, Wizards will be hosting several opportunities to experience the red box, through photo ops and game play. Following the event, Wizards will continue offering game play opportunities for fans interested in trying the D&D Starter Set, through a Worldwide D&D Game Day and the third season of the popular D&D Encounters in-store gameplay program. PAX attendees will also have the chance to interact with the beloved brand outside the convention center, at the D&D Bus which will host game demos, live entertainment and special events throughout the weekend.

For Magic: The Gathering fans, the upcoming Scars of Mirrodin set will be previewed at an exclusive party on Saturday, September 4, giving attendees early access to the content of the set, which is not broadly available until October 2010. Tickets to the party are limited, but PAX attendees will have a chance to earn one by stopping by the Wizards booth and participating in a scavenger hunt activity at the show.

Celebrating its digital Magic offerings, Wizards will also offer attendees the chance to play popular MTG-based PC and Xbox Live® Arcade games. Fans will also be able to challenge each other -- and celebrities -- to Duels of the Planeswalkers in the Wizards booth as well as in the Duels of the Planeswalkers Gamer Lounge, experiencing the top-selling Xbox LIVE® Arcade game firsthand.

"It's great that the Northwest is becoming a hub of gaming and Wizards is thrilled to be a part of it," said Arron Goolsbey, Senior Director of Organized Play Programs for Wizards of the Coast. "As a long-established brand in the gaming industry, we appreciate the opportunity to interact with gamers and others in our industry."

If playing their favorite games and experiencing the new gameplay options isn't enough, fans will also have access to famed authors, artists, and designers, through signings and seminars.
