Wizards of Special Delivery... Canada Post Delivers Final Harry Potter Book to Calgary Muggles this Saturday

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2007) - On Saturday, July 21, thousands of avid Calgary Harry Potter fans will be on the lookout for the familiar red white and blue Canada Post delivery truck pulling up to their door.

Some 90 of these trucks will cross the city that day to deliver 6,300 copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - the final installment in the wildly popular book series - to customers who ordered the book online through amazon.ca and chapters.indigo.ca.

Deliveries will be made throughout the day between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting from the Calgary Mail Processing Plant at 1100 - 49th Ave. NE. A fleet of Canada Post vans will break a ceremonial banner at 8 a.m. to mark the start of delivery.

Canada Post is a brand leader in online parcel distribution. Across the country about 80,000 copies of the book will be delivered on the release day to 36 Canadian cities -- representing one of the biggest delivery operations for Canada Post after Christmas and Mother's Day.

Canada Post worked closely with both online booksellers to ensure their customers receive the book on the date of publication, July 21. "Nationally, we worked out a customized solution to deliver all these books on Saturday," says Jim Sadler, Director of Sales for Canada Post in Alberta.

Canada Post delivered the last Potter book for customers of both online retailers in 2005, achieving a 99.9 per cent on-time service on 80,000 books - 50,000 alone on release day. Similarly in 2003, 70,000 copies were delivered on release day and in 2000 10,000 copies.

"Business needs Canada Post to be flexible and adaptable and this special delivery is a perfect example of how Canada Post is developing a business model that our business partners can depend on," says Louis O'Brien President of the Parcels Division.

The books are under tight security until distribution. There will be various photo opportunities, including the breaking of the banner and loading of delivery trucks.
